So you want to stop smoking?

Sorry, but unless you really want to stop and it is your decision to stop, then the task is hopeless!!!
Smoking has become socially unacceptable and most of the smokers who are out there have already QUIT SMOKING. What we are left with is either the young smoker who believes they are untouchable and nothing will happen to them or the hard core of smokers who have tried everything but deep down do not believe they can stop.
Well you can, and it is not that hard once you have made up your own mind that it is time to QUIT!!!
Just so many programmes to choose from BUT what will work for you?
Cold turkey? Hypnosis? Laser? Patches? Drugs? What ever you decide on, please choose one that attacks the two elements that keep you smoking.
• Your addiction to Nicotine
• The psychological side or habit if you like (social drink, sit down for a coffee etc.)
Unless you do this then you will probably go back to smoking again and again!!!
You may think that it is the Nicotine that is the hard part to give up. Sure it is very addictive (they are designed to do that) but the real hard part is what you might call ‘my relaxing time’. Statistics show that 95% of people who give up smoking – start again. WHY you ask?
Because . . . . .
(a) They were not prepared
(b) Doing it for someone else
(c) Only attacked the addiction to Nicotine
ABC – Always Be Careful. Yes, quitting smoking also means a change of your present lifestyle. Be aware that you are an ex smoker so smoke-filled rooms won’t help you, people offering saying ‘one won’t hurt you’ won’t help you. BUT the real danger is when you have stopped for a while and you think you have it under control and you just want to try ONE because it is easy – one won’t make me a smoker again. Ha! Ha! Ha! Wouldn’t I like a dollar for every time I have heard that one?
So, write a list of the reasons you want to stop. Keep that list with you and look at it constantly.
Set a date for stopping – and I mean stopping forever. Some people prefer the concept of ‘cutting down’. Studies show this does not work, in fact because you are cutting down you inhale more smoke than you normally would so your Nicotine addiction does not alter!!!
Tell everyone you’re quitting smoking.
AND CHOOSE THE PROGRAMME THAT ATTACKS BOTH THE PHYSICAL & THE PSYCOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF QUITTING SMOKING!!!
